Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
I think a typical work day would be like my school day. We come in, and every hour we switch topics of learning.
What do you think the business's general work policies are (tardiness, absence, etc.)?
I think that as a teacher, you have a much stricter schedule. You can’t just call in sick and stay home, you have to call in, find a substitute, make sure the sub has the lesson plan, and have an estimation of when you will be back.
Describe what you think the dress code will be like at this site.
I think it is business casual. I’ve seen other teachers in jeans, but I would be more comfortable with jeans and a collared shirt, blouse or sweater. So basically our dress code.
In what ways do you expect your high school classes and the skills you have learned to apply to this profession?
Humanities/Writing
writing
reading
analyzing text
I want to be a Humanitites teacher, so everything I learn in this class, I will be teaching to kids.
Math
problem solving
There can be problems in the classroom, and with problem solving skills I can difuse tension
Physics
real life application
Physics has really showed me how to connect everything I’m learning to the real world and how it works, so that’s going to help me.
Multimedia
Computer skills
~Photoshop
~Adobe Illustrator
~Laptops
~Gmail and other programs
This will help me in the new age, where worksheets and filing is becoming outdated, and everything is on the computer.
Spanish
Spanish
I have learned simple conversational questions in Spanish, that I can use with a student that may not speak a whole lot of English.
I expected the day to go pretty much as it did. I did a lot of filing papers, imputing grades, taking down classroom decorations, etc. I’ve learned that teaching isn’t just standing in front of a class and talking. There’s a lot more paperwork involved, and the students need to show that they are learning.
