The Look @ Me Now project, was a joint project between Art and Humanities. In Art we created collages, and channeled our inner Chuck Close to create self Portraits. In Humanities we wrote memoirs and wrote about our past experiences and what we hold close.

When making this piece, I took into account a lot of things from my childhood that have influenced who I am today. My dad listened and continues to listen to some pretty obscure music, that I have morphed into my own taste. I grew up listening to Mazzy Star, The B-52’s, and Siouxsie and The Banshees, so I drew a lot from that. I painted my hair pink, because there is a line in the song Planet Claire that talks about how Claire has pink hair, and no one has a head. I decorated the top of my dress with the label for Souixsie and The Banshees, The B-52’s, and Mazzy Star. I painted my skin green and decorated it with flowers, because I used to help my mom a lot when she was planting flowers in our backyard. I included a sticky note from a girl scout seminar I went to, because when I left I just felt really empowered. I put a game ticket on top of that, because it was from one of my favorite nights at summer camp in Arizona. I pasted on a tapir, because I appreciated his superb performance in Ice Age: The Meltdown. I added cutouts of the words inside, STUNNING QUALITY, and colorful. I put the word inside because although I am loud and tell a lot about myself I keep alot of my feelings from people, the word colorful because many people have used that word to describe my personality, and the phrase stunning quality because I feel like I really put my authentic self out there. I put pictures of sunsets and weather patterns, because I love sunsets, and I love the rain with a passion. Lastly, I have a picture of a sparkly bird and a group of people looking happy together. I connect on a personal level with the bird, and the group of people because they just look really happy. I feel like this is a very good representation of my personality.
